  • Knebworth & Marymead Medical Practice
  • Shephall Health Centre

UPDATE 11th May 2022

COVID-19 - SPRING BOOSTERS & Operational update

Dear Patients.

We are pleased to inform you that for the last few weeks we have been pressing forward with the COVID-19 Spring Booster vaccinations. These are offered to those are considered ‘most vulnerable’ and are currently only being offered to patients over the age of 75, and patients aged 12 and over who are immunosuppressed (not to be confused with ‘clinically vulnerable’), & residents of aged care homes.

The spring booster is most effective when administered 6 months after the last dose of any COVID-19 vaccination.

It has been decided that a spring booster isn’t necessary for anyone that doesn’t fall into the above two categories, therefore if you haven’t received an invitation by now, you likely do not require a vaccination. If you are one of our patients and the guidance changes, you will be contacted in due course!

We have also moved our vaccination base of operations back to Roebuck Surgery, where it all began at the end of 2020!

We run vaccination clinics here every Thursday afternoon at present, and accept appointments and walk ins for 1st , 2nd , Booster & Spring booster vaccinations. Unfortunately, due to vaccine supply we are currently only able to vaccinate anyone aged 18+, we encourage anyone else to contact 119 to book at an alternative site.

Regards, Stevenage South PCN

PREVIOUS UPDATE 3rd February 2022:

Dear Patients,

Thank you for your continued support over the course of the booster programme. As you may be aware, the UK government pushed for the general public to get their booster in response to the Omicron variant, resulting in us now almost vaccinating 7000 patients since October.

Going forward, the vaccination programme is still going strong. We are running clinics every Saturday at Shephall Health Centre, Ridlins End, SG2 9QZ. Patients can attend via appointment OR walk in for their 1st, 2nd (3rd dose if applicable) and booster doses.

12-15 year olds are also now being invited for 1st and 2nd doses if they haven’t yet received them, these are administered by our experienced clinicians in a private room, and we look to expand this to vulnerable 5 – 11 year olds in the coming weeks.

To clarify, please see the below for current vaccine eligibility

  • 8 Week gap between 1st and 2nd (and 3rd if applicable) doses.
  • 12 Week gap between last primary dose and booster vaccination.
  • Have not tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 4 weeks.

  • 12 week gap between 1st and 2nd doses.
  • Have not tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks.

Hope everyone has had a fantastic start to the year!

Stevenage South PCN

PREVIOUS UPDATE 15th December 2021:

Dear Patients,

You’ll be pleased to know across all 4 practices we have administered almost 4000 Covid-19 vaccinations since the start of the booster programme, and we plan to continue doing so into the new year.

We consider that a massive achievement and we would like to thank everyone involved, from the practice staff who have provided admin and clinical support all the way through to the patients who have helped our clinics run as smoothly as possible and continue to provide us with incredible feedback.

We understand that the eligibility rules are changing for the booster vaccination due to the new omicron variant, however we are awaiting further confirmation and will invite all eligible patients as soon as possible!

We sincerely hope you and your families have a safe and wonderful Christmas and a happy new year.

SSPCN Covid Team!

PREVIOUS UPDATE 27th October 2021:

Dear Patients,

You will be pleased to know that we are making good, steady progress with the Covid-19 Booster vaccinations across the four practices.

We are now able to accommodate all patients in the 60 + and 16 – 64 with underlying health conditions cohorts. If you fall into either of these categories and have not yet received a text or letter from us, please contact your surgery to book into one of our clinics (which will still be taking place every Saturday for the foreseeable future).

For our immunocompromised patients, we have also started to administer 3rd Primary doses of the COVID-19 vaccination – this is the same vaccination as the booster, but can be offered as early as 2 months after the 2nd dose. It is intended to be part of the Primary course of vaccinations, meaning that in 6 months’ time, any patient who receives a 3rd dose will then also be invited for a booster, to provide these patients with an extra level of protection against the virus.

Stevenage South PCN are also looking to extend our vaccination programme into the local community as we are plan to provide access to vaccinations for hard to reach groups across Stevenage.

Thank you for all of your continued support throughout the pandemic!

Stevenage South PCN

PREVIOUS UPDATE 14th October 2021:

We are happy to announce that we are now fully underway with the Stevenage South PCN Covid-19 Booster Programme and have now completed two clinic days over the past two weekends.

Please note that all clinics are by appointment only, we are not able to run any walk in clinics at this time.  We will contact patients via text or letter to invite you for your booster vaccinations, please bear with us, we are working our way through the different cohorts as quickly as possible.  We are now in a position to invite all 70+ patients (please note that there must be a minimum gap of 6 months between your second vaccination and booster vaccination), so if you are in either of these cohorts and have not already received a text or letter from us please contact your surgery and they will be able to book you into one of our clinics.  Please note that all clinics are currently taking place on Saturdays.

We have noticed a large number of calls into Shephall Health Centre in recent weeks to enquire about the booster vaccination programme.  Please do not contact Shephall Health Centre regarding your booster vaccination as this will lead to the phone lines being engaged for patients who need to contact the surgery to book other healthcare related appointments.  If you have any questions about the vaccination programme we will be uploading regular updates to our website.  If you really need to speak to someone about your booster vaccination then please contact your GP surgery or the following mobile number 07535697626 (please note that this number will not always be manned, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible).

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you at one of our clinics soon.

PREVIOUS UPDATE 27th September 2021:

We are happy to announce that the South Stevenage PCN COVID-19 booster programme will now start on Saturday 2nd October.  We will be contacting patients as and when they become eligible to receive the booster vaccination.  The latest guidance dictates that there should be a minimum of 6-months between a patients second vaccination and the booster vaccination.

Patients will be contacted via a text message, with a link to book your appointment.  All clinics will currently take place at Shephall Health Centre on Saturdays.  Any patients who do not have a smart phone will be contacted via letter with a pre-booked appointment.  If not convenient this appointment can then by changed or cancelled by contacting your GP surgery.

Please do not contact your surgery, or Shephall Health Centre, to book your vaccination as we will be in contact with you to book when you become eligible.  If you would like any further information please have a look through our website which has up to date information about Covid-19.

Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you to a clinic soon.

PREVIOUS UPDATE 10th September 2021:

Dear Patient,

As you may be aware the Government have announced that there will be a ‘Phase 3’ Covid-19 booster programme for specific patients across England.  Information and guidance regarding this programme is being updated regularly, therefore we will aim to provide the most up to date information regarding the Stevenage South Primary Care Network vaccine booster programme via this webpage.  This information will be relevant for patients from the following surgeries:

  • Bedwell Medical Centre
  • King George Surgery
  • Knebworth & Marymead Medical Practice
  • Shephall Health Centre

Please do not contact the surgery regarding your vaccination as we are planning to be in contact with you directly as and when we are advised about the eligible patient cohorts and which patient groups we are able to offer the booster vaccination to.  Our Covid-19 booster vaccinations will take place at Shephall Health Centre, initially on Saturdays, and we hope to begin the programme in early October.

We are hoping to utilise some new system functionality allowing us to send a text message containing a link to enable you to book your appointment using a smart phone.  If you do not have a smart phone we will contact you by letter instead.  For communication via letter, you will receive a pre-booked appointment, which you will be able to reschedule if not convenient.

If you have any questions or would like access to the most up to date Covid-19 information, please see our additional Covid-19 information page which provides the most up to date guidance and information.

Thank you for your patience with this process and we look forward to welcoming you to a clinic soon.
